Table Top Inventing is spreading the word about “Maker’s Ed”
Our Table Top Inventing crew has been busy the past couple of weeks spreading the word about Maker Education from Murphy, NC to Collegedale, TN! As we head back to CA for the final bootcamp of the summer, we wanted to share some of the past week’s highlights!
Murphy, NC Inventor’s Bootcamp Wrap Up
The Murphy, NC Inventor’s Bootcamp truly rocked! We worked with a fantastic group of kids and teachers. Check out the creative security systems the kids came up with for Project 5S below and on our TTI FaceBook page! Special thanks to The Learning Center! Charter School for providing a great space for the camp!
Murphy, NC Art Walk
We were thrilled to be invited to showcase the artistic side of 3D printing at the Murphy Art Walk last Friday. We met lots of interesting folks and shared the “crafty” side of 3D printing. Thank you to the Blue Ridge Olive Oil Company for being our host. If you are in their neck of the woods, stop by there for a fantastic selection of olive oils and vinegars. So many choices, so little time!
“Making Sense of Maker’s Ed” at Southern Adventist University
TTI had the opportunity to facilitate a faculty seminar on Monday at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, TN. We discussed the questions:
- “What is the purpose of an education?”
- “How can we elicit independent exploration in a makerspace situation?”
- “What makes a room with tools into a makerspace?”
We modeled independent exploration as the faculty played with Arduino and 3D printing throughout the course of our discussions – so much fun! Many thanks to the McKee Library for inviting us to campus.
Thousand Oaks, CA Inventor’s Bootcamp Registration
Our final Inventor’s Bootcamp for the summer will take place in Thousand Oaks, CA (August 19-22) at the Lang Ranch Elementary School. Teachers and students are invited to become secret agents and tackle project 5S! We are hoping some of our High Desert friends will join us – it’s much nicer at the beach in August 🙂 Don’t miss this opportunity to add some fun and excitement to your summer!
